Good evening.
We have been made aware of a video circulating showing how you can manufacture your own smoke grenades using potassium nitrate along with some rudimentary materials.
Whilst it may seem like a good way to save on your pyro bill, we strongly advise against attempting this for a few reasons.
Firstly, experimenting with potentially volatile chemicals is obviously not without significant risk to persons or property.
Secondly, there are a number of pieces of legislation that you could reasonably find yourself falling foul of in doing so.
The manufacture of explosive or pyrotechnic devices is fairly strongly regulated, as they contain substances that can cause harm or injury.
I won’t list all of the various acts and legislation that you could potentially be in contravention of, but they are multitudinous, they do include:
The Explosives Act 1875 (substances created and used in the video are defined as “explosive substances” by this act)
In short, aside from being dangerous, this could also potentially be against the law.
If you have any further questions, please drop us a PM and we will do our best to answer you.
