Response from Scotlands Justice Minister regarding airsoft

I apologise profusely for the delay in making this available online.

as some of you might know there was some adverse press at the beginning of the year in scotland and whilst it seems to have died down it did lead me to contact the SMP mentioned in the article, Bob Doris. He took up the case for airsoft with Kenny MacAskill especially in light of the proposed airgun legislation.

I have been given permission to publish the letter that Mr Doris received in response to his enquiries from Mr MacAskill so here it is:

Wanted!! registrar and Web Admin

Hi All,

Well, they say management is all about recruitment and it is as true in the role of chairman as it was when I was a National Sales Manager! as such we are seeking members willing to donate time and effort to the following roles:

Registrar

Web admin

both roles are vital to the smooth running of the association and require that time is dedicated to the positions. I won’t lie to you; at times they will be quite demanding and need some serious attention so please think long and hard if you want to do it.

For the registrar you will be responsible for maintaining the membership database, issuing the membership packs and dealing with enquiries from new, expired or potential members. THIS CAN TAKE UP LOTS OF TIME although we are working on streamlining the process based on feedback from the outgoing registrar and from members themselves.

The web Admin role will need to be filled by someone with experience both in web design and database management and all the magical stuff that goes with it. experience of wordpress would also be a bonus as thats what we use. we have several updates to carry out and also a server migration which the new incumbent would have to manage and drive forward.

if you’re still interested then let me know at chair@ukapu.org.uk

Thanks folks

Phil

Steve Morley aka Wallace comes on board as consultant for the North East area

I am delighted to be able to announce that a well known and respected member of the airsoft community has joined the ranks of UKAPU as a consultant to help us further promote UKAPU in the North East.

As an active site owner/operator and player Wallace can bring a wealth of experience and thoughts to UKAPU and we look forward to hearing some of his ideas and implementing them wherever possible.

In line with the constitution, Wallace will have no voting rights on committee business to maintain impartiality which is the cornerstone of the association.

So welcome Wallace and thank you for stepping up. To end, heres a few words from the man himself:

“After serving for almost 10 years as a Royal Marines Commando I left to settle down and set up a landscaping company. I quickly found Airsoft through some friends from my paintballing days prior to joining up and soon became hooked. I soon found that the sites i played did not inspire me, particularly from a customer service point of view.

I took the plunge with some close friends and opened our own Airsoft site which continues to grow and have recently opened both site shop and an online shop. Though i will hold no voting rights with UKAPU i look forward to sharing a site and shop owners perspective on UKAPU affairs and hope to help others find and embrace this fantastic sport.

Steve ‘Wallace’ Morley”

Help change the law for fellow airsofters in Sweden

As some of you might know, who frequent the many airsoft forums out there, there is a growing movement in Sweden to amend a current law that precludes ANY GBB gun from operating on gas – whether it be green gas or propane. The reason this law is considered a wee bit daft is because they do allow for HPA, spring powered and CO2 power!

you can help by going to this website and lending your support

Thanks,

Membership Changes

Hi All,

I’m sure you are all gearing up for the bearded one to bring you tons of airsoft goodness next week; I’m assuming that the Mayans got it wrong at this point as Im still here stuck infront of the computer.

Just to let you all know that we agreed a few dramatic changes to the way membership will be offered moving forwards.

Firstly, anyone signing up now either online or in person can sign to self certify that they are a skirmisher. We decided that as we do not wish to be an alternative scheme to enable the purchasing of RIF’s and the verification process could take quite a while; as some of you can attest to, for which I apologise, the self certification route is by far the best and most streamlined approach.

It is important to remember that UKAPU is still an organisation for skirmishers, that hasn’t changed and this shift does not take away from that at all.

We hope that this will help win back those people who may have been deterred in the past.

If anyone has any questions about their membership, whether it being new or a renewal please email membership@ukapu.org.uk

The second change over will be to offer a rolling renewal so you never have to worry about your membership lapsing. This won’t be an immediate change but one we will phase in overtime.

Thanks All. I hope you all have a wonderful Xmas and a very happy and prosperous new year.

Regards,

Phil

A goodbye message from Matt

Hello airsoft players. Things have changed for me recently, I’ve taken on a time and brain power consuming new position at work which unfortunately has to take higher priority than my hobbies. It’s also probable that I will be emigrating soon. As such I won’t be able to continue as Chairman of UKAPU. I’d like to have held the position till the AGM but things are moving quicker for me than I can manage at the moment.

So, what the committee have decided to do, upon my resignation, is select (at a management meeting) Phil Bucknall (previously one of the co-opted position holders) as the temporary Chairman to fill the position till the AGM, at which Phil has nominated himself for the 2012-2013 chair. Phil can’t guarantee that he’ll have enough spare time to hold the position forever, but if you guys give him the support he needs he will do a fantastic job and I hope he will take the position on long term. Phil will ensure the survival and growth of UKAPU next year and he tells me he has some interesting objectives.

Unfortunately three other committee members have had changes in circumstances. Andy, our Secretary, would like to step down. If another candidate steps forward then he will not nominate himself at the AGM, as his spare time has become extremely limited, so we’d like to enable this and find a secretary. Hayden, the registrar, has all but finished playing airsoft so has (quite reasonably) decided not to stand again. As such we really do need a new registrar, and whilst Hayden’s role is quite time intensive at the moment, the committee will soon be making BIG changes to the membership system to alleviate workload on the new Registrar and to make it easier/quicker for people to join. Chris Neal also need to move on, so an interesting position as Press Officer is also Available. It would also be desirable to fill Phils old position, Membership Benefits Manager. Many thanks to Chris, Andy and Hayden for their time in office.

I ask that you give Phil all the help that you can and thus make it possible for him to progress UKAPU next year, I am extremely grateful to him for taking this off my hands at a difficult time for me and you guys should be very grateful that he’s doing it too, as without a good Chairman the association would face difficulties. I will be voting for him at the AGM and I recommend you do too (although it goes without saying, any member is still free to nominate themselves and run against Phil). We really need a few more of you to nominate as Registrar, PO and Secretary. These roles should not take too much of your time and you could very easily hold them for just a year and hand over a the 2013 AGM. I’m sure you will find it very interesting and you will certainly get to make a difference to UK airsoft.

I’ve really enjoyed my 3 years as Chairman and will stay as involved as I can with the association. I’ll remain as president of the EAA for the foreseeable future as I still intend to straighten that organisation out before I leave the post and I was elected independently of my Chairmanship of UKAPU. Thank you all for your support and confidence, which as Chairman has enabled me to do something productive and interesting with my spare time and learn an awful lot. Its been great and I know the association will have another fantastic year. If you’ve not signed up yet, give these guys your support for a measly £5 a year, it is so worthwhile.

Hope to catch you all on the field sometime,

Matt Furey-King

Proud UKAPU Member
