Facebook announcement – Feb 20th

Just a post about the AGM that we’re holding on the 29th of February in Birmingham

If anyone wishes to add anything to the agenda, please either message the page or send us an e-mail in the next few days for it to be added to the agenda.

If you wish to attend the game day (and the AGM) and potentially be in the running to win something in our birthday raffle – you can still do this by going to https://www.ukapu.org.uk/agm-2020

There will be further posts in the next couple of days detailing the schedule and what committee posts are available.

ALSO: If anyone who is attending has any food allergies or other dietary requirements, let me know. As much as I like eating cake, I’d rather other people were able to partake in the eating of cake too. 🙂

What’s so special about a leap year?

Not the bit that leap days are a thing only once every four years, but the exciting news that UKAPU will be holding our 10th Annual General Meeting at Grange Live Gaming (Bravo1) in Birmingham this year – on the 29th of February.

Doors will be open from about 9am, and the UKAPU members only game day will start at about 10am.

Attendance of the game day is £20, of which £5 is a deposit that can be paid via https://www.ukapu.org.uk/agm-2020

If you’re coming by car, you’ll need to pay separately for parking as it’s in the centre of Birmingham – and oddly enough there’s easy access via public transport too!

There’ll definitely be cake – and there *might* even be a special 10th birthday raffle, stay tuned for more information.

As is with every general meeting, every position is open for re-election (even mine!) and if you’re interested in joining the committee, please send us a message.

We at team UKAPU look forward to seeing you at our very special 10th AGM at the end of February.

A message to our members

This is advanced notice that our 10th Game Day & Annual General Meeting will be held, sometime in the next couple of months.

We’ve got ideas where and when, but we need to confirm it with both our committee members and the host first, but once that is done we will publish a formal invitation.

As is with every Annual General Meeting, every position within UKAPU is up for re-election.

If you have anything you’d like to raise at the AGM, or would like to know more about what we do at the AGM, please let us know.

You can contact us via the website or via Facebook.

~ David, Chairman

PS: The date in which the AGM is to be held has been moved to a period later in the year, as requested at last year’s AGM.

** UKAPU reaches a decade serving the UK airsoft community **

Where were you 10 years ago, today?

I can’t remember (possibly because I was too busy being a rather young person), but there are a select few groundbreaking folk in the UK Airsoft community that do remember – because they were present at a meeting to establish a representative airsoft skirmishers organisation – of which the creation of UK Airsoft Players Union – UKAPU was the outcome.

A lot has happened over the last ten years.

We’ve fought battles with to keep our hobby/sport alive and legal – with the help of the wider community, been diligent investigators when inaccurate (or otherwise interesting) articles in the press surface, helped with great effect when our members have encountered serious legal issues when carrying out activities related to airsoft and been a reassuring help to those who have experienced the wonderful delight that is bureaucracy.

We’ve even helped a family to adopt a child.

We can’t just rest on our laurels and watch the world go by however, we’re constantly on the look out for anything that might threaten Airsoft as we play it today.

There was originally a plan to celebrate our 10th birthday in the venue that UKAPU was founded in, however from what I can tell, this building no longer exists.

Therefore, we’ve decided to formally celebrate our 10th birthday at the Annual General Meeting, which has been pencilled in to be held at the very end of February.

On behalf of the committee, past and present, we thank our members (and the wider community) for their support over the past decade.

Facebook announcement – Oct 8th

As we jump into October, it’s time for the first part of the UKAPU half-year review, a round up of what we have been doing and our plans for the next six months.

We at Team UKAPU have been hard at work in what will soon be our 10th year, continuing to promote and defend the unique thing we love that is airsoft as well as educating and assisting our members with any legal queries they may have.

Admittedly things have been quiet here, but we like it like this. We see it as a good thing when we’re whirring away in the background; it means we can take it easy and skirmish! The chairman took some time out of his schedule to attend IWA in Nuremberg earlier this year as a visitor – it was a rather fruitful networking exercise finally managing to meet some of those who are involved in the press side of airsoft as well as looking at all the newest AR pattern airsoft replicas out there – and who knows, perhaps we’ll be back next year?

Our membership is still growing, even at a time of relative peace within UK airsoft – an indicator of how our community is maturing. More people care and want to have a collective voice for the future of airsoft.

For those who haven’t yet joined but somehow are seeing this, membership is still free (and donations are gladly accepted) – please visit https://www.ukapu.org.uk/join/ for more information!

Keen members may have come across various posts on the website and/or Facebook indicating the official position of UKAPU with regards to defences. We often get asked whether or not we are able to support our members in purchasing RIFs, and this is something that we do not currently offer at this time. A change to the website has even been made to the sign up process to inform prospective members that this isn’t something we do.

Something that this past year has highlighted is how the media have continued to publish negative stories seemingly blaming airsoft, with little snippets of information that contain misleading information. We have been working with both various Police forces (who appear to be the source of this misleading copy) and publications themselves to ensure that correct yet succinct information is given out to the reader.

We have also worked with a publisher of series of well known manuals that are used by police officers to review their understanding of the law – to fix some rather interesting inaccuracies regarding airsoft legislation in the UK/NI within one of their publications. We will let our members know further information when available. The chairman would like to express his thanks to a poster on the Airsoft Forums UK discussion board for bringing this to the community’s attention.

Our members often come to us about questions they may have, and one of the questions that stands out is the Northern Ireland question – specifically, seeing if we can bring 1.3J/2.5J to Northern Ireland. It is our long-term goal to standardise power limits between the mainland and NI, however there are few stumbling blocks we’d need to climb over, one being how to handle the Republic of Ireland’s 1J limit. This is especially important given how many of our Northern Irish members play Airsoft on both sides of the border. We are still actively looking at how to move forward in the best manner with regards to this, and would actively like your comments on this matter, even if you don’t live in the island of Ireland.

Sadly due to our volunteers being unavailable, we weren’t able to attend the Midlands Airsoft Fair but to make up for it UKAPU were at the UK’s biggest gathering of airsoft skirmishers – the National Airsoft Festival! Despite the chairman and other members of the committee being regulars at NAF, it was UKAPU’s first time in formal attendance for many years – which we found to be a great success.

Anyhow, I’ve typed out a fair amount, and my fingers need a break. Keep tuned for the second part of the review, which will come out shortly.

On behalf of all of the UKAPU committee, we’d thank you for your ongoing support.

~ David

Public service announcement. A large QTY of RIFs have been stolen from a site in Birmingham. Please keep your eyes peeled and help get these back to their rightful owners. Thanks Anthony
