Facebook announcement – Nov 15th

Good evening.

We have been made aware of a video circulating showing how you can manufacture your own smoke grenades using potassium nitrate along with some rudimentary materials.

Whilst it may seem like a good way to save on your pyro bill, we strongly advise against attempting this for a few reasons.

Firstly, experimenting with potentially volatile chemicals is obviously not without significant risk to persons or property.

Secondly, there are a number of pieces of legislation that you could reasonably find yourself falling foul of in doing so.

The manufacture of explosive or pyrotechnic devices is fairly strongly regulated, as they contain substances that can cause harm or injury.

I won’t list all of the various acts and legislation that you could potentially be in contravention of, but they are multitudinous, they do include:

The Explosives Act 1875 (substances created and used in the video are defined as “explosive substances” by this act)

In short, aside from being dangerous, this could also potentially be against the law.

If you have any further questions, please drop us a PM and we will do our best to answer you.

A short piece for anyone who is interested in supporting the shooting sports and why it is in the best interests of airsofters to help out our real steel buddies.

Tl:dr? – Basically, we owe it to ourselves and each other to contribute to the preservation of all shooting disciplines, for our own continued enjoyment and to safeguard the future of all shooting sports.

Getting dressed up for Halloween this year?

Lots of us enjoy dressing up for Halloween and to some the addition of a RIF to their outfit might be the cherry on the cake, but if you are planning on going out please consider that the sight of someone strolling around in public or at a party, carrying what most people would consider to be a firearm won’t go down well.

You may not realise it but you are all ambassadors for our sport and as such you have the ultimate responsibility to ensure that no harm comes to it from preventable incidents.

So save yourself and everyone else the hassle and leave the RIF at home!

A call to airsofters about Australia:

At the moment, airsoft replicas are quite hard (read: pretty much impossible) to import into Australia.

Maintaining the status quo would rather hinder the efforts of organisations such as the Western Australia Airsoft Club, Inc. and Queensland Airsoft Sports Club to successfully introduce airsoft to Australia.

So, I’d like to ask our members (and hopefully others) to show support to our Australian cousins by signing a petition that thankfully anyone – in any country – can sign.

A reminder of how vulnerable the firearms community is as a whole against vexatious legislation – not just us airsofters.

We’re staggered about why such laws are even required, especially given how .50 cal isn’t exactly the round of choice for criminals in the UK!

Please remember that even through we’re skirmishing with airsoft replicas, we’re all in the same boat here. :/

A question for UKAPU members:

Have you ever asked yourself the reasons why you play airsoft? Is it the kit, the social side, the gameplay, the sportsmanship? Have you developed a slightly worrying addiction to 6mm caseless?

Now you can tell the whole world¹ why you’re an airsoft skirmisher!

We’re launching a new feature called “Wednesday Warrior” – have a guess why we’ve named it this(!)

Only UKAPU members are allowed submit their profile to Wednesday Warrior. Submissions will be published more or less as is so please keep it clean.

So, if you’d like to take part, feel free to carefully read the form and post, post post!

(¹: okay, perhaps not the entire world, just this bit of Facebook, Twitter and our website)

If you’ve been tracking the momentous adventures of Western Australia Airsoft Club, I have no doubt you’d be impressed how quickly the gears are spinning now.

A member of the Western Australian Parliament’s upper house, out physically campaigning for Airsoft.

Rather eloquent too.

I was going to write an effort post about the press release which stated that Western Australia Airsoft Club, Inc. had a very positive meeting with shadow ministers of the Western Australian parliament a couple of days ago… but, there’s just something heartbreaking about a video starring a sad nerf gun.

If you know any Australians who would love to take up Airsoft, please share this video with them!
